In Their Own Words
“Oh my, such kind words…made my heart do a happy dance…”
…Nancy
Nancy’s work engages the viewer with her bold strokes, harmonious use of color and her spot-on compositions. Whether it be a figurative, still life, landscape or abstract, Junkin’s art grabs your attention. Her eye for detail is evident not only in her carefully chosen color palette, but also in the final detail of framing that perfectly compliments her work.
Junkin is not afraid to delve into mixed media and work with handmade papers, oil, acrylic, and charcoal. It is obvious from her work that she was born to paint and her work shows a creative life fulfilled.
BTW, I LOVE your art! It is so unabashedly both serious and whimsical.
When I asked if your work was abstract expressionist or figurative or… you said “yes” and made me laugh! And then I saw.
Your work is so fully matured; it is simple and complex, sophisticated and primitive. I am enchanted. And I think you have been making art for a very long time. Also, that you are likely an old soul with a very young spirit.
Nancy’s art brings such light and color to my home! Her abstracts are layered, interesting, and nuanced. Each piece we have tells a unique story and evokes different emotions in all of us.
The joy in your art lives in our home. The innocence of a young woman dancer, the power of a group of women friends, the love of a woman and a man, and the absolute beauty of the colors in an embroidered blouse — you found the magic in them all. Thank you, Nancy.
Years ago we were lucky enough to acquire an early (and rare) charcoal piece from Nancy Junkin. A few years later we picked up a second piece, then a third, then a fourth — as we moved and remodeled I just found myself going back to her work. This year we commissioned an absolutely stunning landscape painting that occupies prime real estate in our home. What I have found most interesting about her art is how much people gravitate toward it, and how quickly the comment of “wait, is this the same artist?” comes. We have received so many compliments on the pieces and I really enjoy the color and depth they bring to our home.
Nancy’s paintings are often contemplative. They draw us in to the painting itself. Who are these people? What are they thinking, feeling? Women frequent her art, a reflection of the artist herself and the deep affection she feels for her female friends.
I am privileged to own two of Nancy’s paintings. Should a fire break out in my home, I’ve prepared myself to run past the treasured portraits of my three children and grab the NJ’s on my way out. That says it all.
